Shut Down Your Racing Mind and SLEEP Better Tonight
Do you ever find yourself lying awake at night, trapped in an endless cycle of overthinking? If you’re like me, you might have spent countless nights rehashing scenarios and planning for every possible outcome. It’s exhausting, isn’t it? Constantly thinking, “If this happens, I’ll do this. If that happens, I’ll do that.”
This restless thought pattern isn’t uncommon, and if it’s something you struggle with, I want to share a word of encouragement from Deuteronomy 9:3. In this scripture, the Israelites stand at the edge of the Promised Land, and we are reminded, “Understand therefore this day that the Lord thy God is He which goeth over before thee as a consuming fire.” God is with us, going before us to handle challenges and clear a path for our journey.
Reflecting on this, I was reminded of a powerful idea I encountered recently: worry is temporary insanity because it imagines a world where God is absent. And that’s simply not true. The truth is, God is always present, laying the groundwork and addressing the hurdles we might dread.
I realized that much of my life has been spent trying to micromanage God, treating my prayers like a game of chess where I instruct God on every move. “Lord, if this happens, can you shift this piece here? Can you make this outcome align with my plans?” It’s easy to fall into the trap of overcomplicating our relationship with God, but it doesn’t have to be this way.
What if, instead, we focused on the bigger picture? What if we allowed ourselves to envision not just the outcomes we desire, but the peace and fulfillment we’ll feel when we arrive? It’s important to get clear on the overarching goal, how you want to feel when you get there, and then entrust the details to God.
By surrendering control and trusting in God’s divine plan, we can release the burden of overthinking and embrace a more restful mind. As you go to bed tonight, try telling God, “I trust you to work this out in the best way possible.” Let His presence guide and calm you, so you can finally sleep with the peace of knowing that you’re never alone in managing life’s complexities.
God bless, and may you sleep soundly tonight.
