Faith Over Fear

Embracing Faith Over Fear: A Lesson from King Jehoshaphat

Have you been concerned about something?

You prayed about it. Maybe you felt a feeling of peace or you got a next step to go forward.

But then, as time passes, you begin to wonder: Is this really going to happen? Fear, doubt or concern starts to emerge. If so, I have a word of encouragement for you from the Father, inspired by 2 Chronicles 20.

This is the story of Israel and their righteous king, Jehoshaphat. The people of Ammon and the Moabites were coming against them—a huge multitude that left the Israelites outnumbered. In their desperation, they called upon God.

Jehoshaphat prayed, saying,

“Our God, wilt thou not judge them? For we have no might against this great company that cometh against us. Neither know we what to do, but our eyes are upon thee.”

2 Chronicles 20:12

So all of Judah stood forth with their little ones, their wives, and their children. They prayed to God, fasting and asking for deliverance.

Then, one of the prophets came forth and delivered a message from the Lord:

“Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God’s. Ye shall not need to fight in this battle. Set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the Lord with you. Fear not, nor be dismayed. Tomorrow go out against them, for the Lord will be with you.”

2 Chronicles 20:15

Jehoshaphat and all the people fell down and worshiped the Lord, praising God for His deliverance to come.

Jehoshaphat then instructed the people to believe in the Lord. He sent forth praise singers ahead of his army to praise the Lord before the battle even began. They sang, “Praise the Lord for his mercy endureth forever.” Miraculously, the enemies—the Moabites and Ammonites—turned on each other and were defeated. It took Israel three days to gather up the spoils, all the riches left by their enemies.

When the Lord gives you peace about something or tells you the right path to take, move forward without worry, fear, or doubt. Instead, go into praise. Praise God ahead of time.

There is nothing more powerful than going into praise ahead of time. It’s the ultimate act of faith, and with such faith, miracles can indeed happen.
